Stefan Busch is a Berlin-based contemporary artist. He was a defining member of Tape That Collective and shaped Tape Art as an own art form through international projects, commissioned work for brands like Audi, Nike or Sony. He founded and curated the Tape Art Convention which was funded by the ministry of culture in Berlin. The exhibition "Tape Art by Tape That" in Taipei won the "Red Dot Design Award - Best of the Best".

Growing up in the 90s whitnessing the rapid digital transformation Stefan Buschs work is greatly inspired by virtual aesthetics. His work captures the spirit of a postmodern world, transforming spaces into walkable virtual landscapes. His influences range from abstract Conceptual Art, High-Tech-Architecture, Retro-Futurism and Computer Art. On a conceptual level, the rapid changes in our mediated environment – the idea of a hyperreality toward which our society is drifting – have become his greatest source for ideas.

2010: Discovery of Tape Art
Stefan Busch began working with tape as a creative medium in 2010, drawn to its unique potential. This marked the beginning of his exploration of the medium, which would become central to his artistic practice.

2012: Joining Tape That CollectiveIn

2012, Stefan became an active member of the artist collective Tape That. Through this collaboration, he realized commissioned projects for global brands like VW, Audi, Adidas, Nike, and Google. As part of Tape That, he curated exhibitions with the aim of introducing Tape Art to new audiences worldwide. Stefan was also a key contributor to the project series Tape Art Around the World, working in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut and the German Foreign Office to organize exhibitions and workshops across the globe, further expanding the reach and recognition of Tape Art.

 

2016: Founding the Tape Art Convention
In 2016, Stefan initiated and curated the Tape Art Convention, an international platform dedicated to this innovative art form. The 2022 edition of the convention was supported by Berlin’s cultural ministry under the patronage of cultural senator Klaus Lederer, further cementing the convention's importance within the art world.

 

2019: Red Dot Design Award and International Recognition
The largest solo exhibition by Tape That Collective in Taiwan in 2019 was a major milestone in Stefan's career. The exhibition received the Red Dot Design Award – Best of the Best and garnered widespread international media attention from outlets such as Reuters, The Guardian, and The New York Times.

2024: Break up with Tape Art and work as a solo artist / founding of Medium Agency
In 2024, Stefan Busch transitioned to working as a solo artist and founded Medium Agency, a creative agency focused on live communication and brand experiences. The agency brings together artists from various fields to create innovative, immersive projects that bridge the gap between art and brands, offering new ways to engage audiences and explore creative storytelling.
